Institut Val-du-Lac
The presence of the Dominicaines des Saints-Anges at Val-du-Lac spans over a period of twelve years, from 1953 to 1965. Over those years, a total of eleven nuns served there. As soon as they arrived in Sherbrooke and in collaboration with the Société de réhabilitation, the organization that had recruited them, the Dominicaines des Saints-Anges Gardiens took charge of l'Institut Val-du-Lac, where 150 troubled boys and 60 educators lived. The recently arrived nuns, faced a challenging adaptation on several counts : learning a new langage, getting used to the canadian cuisine, satisfying certain medical needs, etc. Over those twelve years at the Institut Val-du-Lac, the nuns will accomplish several tasks; they are nurses, seamstresses, cooks, laundresses and administrators.
